There have been numerous stories about green tea decreasing the risk of lung cancer in smokers. One study in China showed a correlation between GREEN (NOT Black) tea and less lung cancer in smokers. There have been others that were certainly intriguing. But, there is NO conclusive proof that Green Tea can lower your risk of lung cancer. My take is that you have nothing to lose by drinking Green tea DAILY. But, let’s be sure we are talking about the same thing. When I say Green tea, I mean tea that YOU brew and drink 4-5 cups a day. Many of the prepared drinks filled with sugar and the Lord only knows what else may actually have little or no Green tea and the sugars and preservatives alone in these commercially prepared drinks might very well nullify any advantage (if indeed there is one) of the Green tea. One brand was recently found to have way too much fluoride in the bottled product- enough to mottle teeth, discolor bones and increase the risk of osteoporosis. Here’s the problem I worry about Green tea from China. There is about nothing that I trust that comes from China and most loose or tea bag Green tea comes from there. One day things may change but as for now it is realistic to assume that any "natural" or biologic product from China is contaminated until proven otherwise. I am investigating brands to see if there is anything that meets California (strict) standards with regard to testing and contamination. I will let you know and if you think you know of one, please let me know (no multilevel vendors PLEASE!!!!!!)
(As always discuss this with your health care provider.)
